Family-run firewood suppliers, Discount Log Company, is proud to have become Grown in Britain certified.

The government scheme identifies companies that source firewood specifically in the UK and is designed to help promote a sustainable future for local woodlands.

The Grown in Britain scheme is backed by the timber Chain of Custody scheme, and tracks raw materials from the forest or woodland of its origin through the supply chain to the end customer.

MD of The Discount Log Company, Olly Richardson, said: “It’s great to have been recognised as Grown in Britain certified. Each of our alder, ash, beech, oak and sycamore trees have been grown and replanted on our family farm in Northumberland.

“We’ve been supplying quality firewood and kindling to our customers for over 50 years and have always been a tight-knit family business, providing a sustainable, quality product.”

All of the hardwood, softwood and kindling provided by Discount Log Company is kiln-dried, ensuring a moisture content of less than 20% which ensures a cleaner, better quality burn.

The company supplies individuals and businesses across the UK from its Northumberland-based farm and is Woodsure Certified, the UK’s only woodfuel certification scheme. The scheme recognises suppliers who provide products that burn with optimum efficiency, putting each product through a thorough testing and control process.

Fine firewood suppliers, Discount Log Company, are celebrating becoming UK Woodsure certified.

The family-run business, which has been supplying kiln-dried firewood and kindling for over 50 years, received the certification in recognition of the quality of their product.

Woodsure is the UK’s only woodfuel certification scheme and is backed by Defra, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The scheme recognises suppliers who provide products that burn with optimum efficiency, putting each product through a thorough testing and control process.

Speaking about the recognition, Director Olly Richardson said: “We are delighted to have been recognised with Woodsure certification for our firewood and kindling supplies. It is a testament to the hard work and care our whole team put into producing our product.
